.history.
Firstborn son to the prestigious House Lysel, only a short ride from the great city of Lucre, Destin was raised to become the next lord of Lysel. Lysel, of course, commanded a certain level of respect along with its name, and so Destin was put into lessons as soon as he could talk. He learned languages, he learned politics, he began swordplay lessons and took to all of them like a duck to water. Politics was simple, languages were easy, and his sword-swing was as natural as if the blade was an extension of his arm. He was clearly everything that his parents had ever hoped for, and more.
There was one thing in his life besides lessons that has existed in his life since he was young, and that was the child of the nearby house Theane. Emery of Theane was near Destin's own age, and, their parents, being allies, often had them play together while the adults went to the temples or to see the clergy. Destin and Emery soon grew close, and Destin has valued Emery as his closest and most-trusted friend since before he can recall.
Where Emery was the religious one, Destin was the figurehead. Emery spent his time reading scripture and studying the healing arts, while Destin continued his study of politics and language.
As time rolled on, Destin found himself becoming more and more protective of Emery, almost to the point of being possessive. Confused by even his own motivations, he evaluated himself carefully, keeping himself away from Emery for several months, and came to one conclusion.
It was forbidden, and he knew it, but he could not seem to repent of it. Nor did he find himself truly wanting to. Horrified at his own attitude toward what was clearly a sin according to scripture, Destin focused his energies elsewhere: courtship of ladies, the arrangements for his own marriage. However, the Dragons seemed against him: one arrangement fell through when his betrothed passed away, and another was ended by the eloping of the noble lady. The struggle to destroy any feelings he had for Emery intensified, and he focused all his energies on his studies, his sword form, and even turned his focus to an attempt to learn magic as well. Anything to distract himself, and get his mind off of Emery of Theane.
.personality.
Destin is self-assured and confident, the perfect figure of a lord of Megam. All the strength and prowess that Lysel prides itself on is reflected in him, from his slightly imposing air to his confident smirk that seems plastered on his face.
Some have called Destin "arrogant." Some were right. Destin is well-aware of all his strengths, and has no qualms with showing them off or telling them to others. Pride is a sin, yes, but Destin reasons that there is no reason to undercut what is surely there. He's unapologetic and seemingly uncaring about the opinions of others. While he can come across as arrogant or cocky, he usually has a very charismatic presence to him, and attracts people with ease. He has a nice smile, a confident air, and a penchant for humor, especially when made at the sake of others.
He is surprisingly not very trusting of other people, mainly because of the fact that he has long been surrounded by those who seek him out only for his position and influence. The name of Lysel commands respect, and Destin is aware of it. As such, even those he keeps close to him know very little about who Destin truly is -- except, of course, for Emery of Theane, who has long been the only person Destin trusts with anything private.
Speaking of Emery, he is most often the brunt of Destin's jokes. Destin reasons that it is indeed not because Emery is hilariously attractive when he blushes, but because they are good friends and all things can be taken in stride. At the same time, though, Destin is incredibly protective of Emery. After all, Emery is his closest friend, and whenever anyone hurts Emery or makes him feel inferior to anyone, Destin tends to get angry.
There's also a frightening jealousy underneath the protective complex. The idea of Emery with anyone tends to make Destin upset, though he pretends not to be. He is sure that Emery is too meek, too mild to be able to assert himself, and thereby needs someone who understands him, someone who can look out for him. And of course, Destin is sure that there is no one who can do that.
Destin has a serious side under the joking, charismatic exterior, and tends to show it fairly often, especially when Emery is involved. He softens his hard, untrusting exterior, and becomes open and truly friendly. He has a lot of concern for the well-being of others (again, especially Emery) and tends to work himself up over small things.
.appearance.
Tall and slim, Destin has short-cut brown hair and deep brown-gold eyes. His hair tends to be a bit wild and messy, no matter how he combs it, and so he's taken to wearing it that way. He dresses very casually, especially for a lord of Megam, but never seems to care if he's berated for it. He's known for being handsome, and his body is made of lean muscle built from years of sword practice.
